In
today’s society advertisements are more prevalent than ever before. When you go
to a movie the first 15 minutes are generally taken up by advertisements. When
you load a website, watch a movie, or download a file more often than not you
must wait a certain amount of time due to advertisements. Today many iPhone
apps are bogged down with ads and information sharing sites so that if you’re
not feeding to the world where you are at every second of your and you’re not
clicking about on your app you’re being distracted or annoyed by
advertisements. Race car drivers have their car tattooed top to bottom with
company logos.
If this continues the outcome could be a turn
for the worst. The government will pay for ads to be shoved down our throats
everywhere we go when we could be using this money for better purposes, such as
world hunger. Everyone enjoys movies and TV and if more ads get attached to our
programs then the more time we will end up sitting in front of the TV and that
can cause our brains to turn in to sleep mode or mush. Are ads going too far? There are many banned ads that have taken it too
far and putting sexual and perverted ideals in to the meaning of the ad. The more ads then the more competitive it is going to be
in the market. Everyone will want to be having their ads on more recently which
could cause havoc in the market. What can one do to help prevent the direction we are going in.
Some solutions could be purchasing only apps that have fewer ads or no ads at all. Television channels get their money from advertising companies, who pay to have the channel show their commercial. Some advertisements are not harmful. Some have a good cause, like a commercial asking for donations to help orphans in Africa. The harmful ads are commercials that try to deceive us or control us, like the one below. A new form of advertising is a screen called digital signage. These flat TV screens have hidden camera that can identify our faces, gender, and ethnicity. It then displays an ad that may interest the individual watching it. These signs must be discontinued because they clearly violate our privacy. We must be careful about what we see and what our minds accept.
